Piano Lessons

Piano students: Do you want to learn to play piano? Do you want to improve your sight-reading ability, develop your ear, increase your technical facility? I CAN HELP YOU! Whether you're someone who's always wanted to learn the piano, someone who studied as a child and regret that you quit, or a parent seeking to give your child a complete musical education (one that's not only focused on reading or regurgitating notes without the ability to create on their own), I can guide you towards your goal of musical expression.

Not only will you learn to read music, you will learn to hear music, understand what's happening, recreate what you hear, be able to execute the music with good technique, but you'll also learn to improvise and potentially compose your own music!

Voice students: I have accompanied hundreds of singers in my career, and as a singer myself, I can help you learn good breath support, how to make a beautiful tone, and coach you in your phrasing, musicality and expression. Have an upcoming performance or competiton? I can help you prepare and have a performance you can be proud of!

Experienced musicians: Are you seeking to improve your reading skill? Want to learn to play by ear? I can give you techniques for developing proficiency in both! I'm an expert sight-reader and ear player (a rare combination!), and have quantified for myself exactly how I managed to develop high level skill in both reading and hearing music. I will share this information with you through reading and listening exercises during the lesson. My expertise is with the grand staff (treble and bass), but I can help you with reading the other staffs as well.

About me: I have played piano and keyboards for more than 25 years, have several degrees in Classical Piano Performance, extensive experince playing R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Musical Theater, have performed around the world, and accompanied legendary and new artists, including Stevie Wonder, with whom I've been touring as a member of his band since 2007. My vast musical experience gives me a unique perspective on how to approach virutally any musical genre in a way that is stylistically correct. I have taught students of all ages: Elementary to Adult. I play and teach music in several styles, including Classical, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Pop, R&B / Hip Hop, Broadway, Standards, etc. I place equal emphasis on reading and ear training, with the aim of musical competence in both cases. I encourage musical creativity through music theory, improvisation and exposure to and appreciation of a variety of musical styles. I believe in teaching freedom and fun in music.
